| 순두부찌개 - Soft Tofu Stew |
It's half way through the first month of 2014 already!
Just two weeks into my last semester of uni and I'm just about keeping up with the work.
Just two weeks until Chinese New Year (a second chance to start getting fit again...).
And twice in two weeks I have satisfied my stomach with Korean food from Palace. :)
Situated in the heart of London's Korea Town (New Malden), Palace is an easily accessible restaurant from Central London with a homely atmosphere. This is one of my favourite Korean restaurants - the food has been delicious every time I visit and the staff are lovely & welcoming! The food is predominantly spicy, so if you can't take the heat warn them or be prepared. For those who are new to Korean food, there is a lunch menu which highlights the classic dishes - Seafood Pancake, Kimchi Chige (Stew) & Bibimbap (literally mixed rice) to name a few - for just £5. I personally love the soft tofu soup (순두부찌개) because the tofu is truly soft and silky (plus a hot soup with a bowl of rice is a nice tummy warmer).

A few general reasons why I think you should go to the Korean restaurants in New Malden rather than Central London.
It is cheaper and they give you free side dishes (student win).
It is more 'authentic' as the owners, employees and customers are in the majority Korean. (Along with the ambience & decor it makes me believe that I'm in Korea for the time I'm there).
There are several supermarkets within close proximities of the restaurants so you can buy some Korean goodies and attempt some Korean style cooking at home.
P.S. After the meal if you can say 잘 먹었습니다 (jal meo geo seum ni da) to the staff, you may make them very happy. It literally means "I have eaten well" but in context it is a way to express your thanks for the meal. I said this to the waitress whilst she was clearing my table and she reacted with a mixture of shock and happiness. ^-^
